From One Penn To Another, O’s Lose 4-2

Rodrigo Lopez manages to get his 17th loss of the year.

Hayden Penn started the game and pitched his best performance by far since being called up. He went 6 and 2/3rd innings, only giving up 2 runs. He also walked 2 and let up 5 hits to go with his 3 strikeouts. He pitched a good game and finally showed everyone what he is capable of. But of course he didn’t get any run support and Rodrigo Lopez came in and lost the game. Rodrigo pitched the last inning and a third for the O’s. He gave up a 2 run homer to Ty Wiggington. Can he make it 20 losses? We’ll fins out soon.

The hitting was terrible as you might expect from the final score. Chris Gomez had a couple of hits. Jay Gibbons had a double. Corey Patterson had a double, a triple, a walk, and a stolen base to lead the way. But that was about it, besides a few singles from Miguel Tejada and Raul Chavez. Nick Markakis has been slumping this past month. I think it is due to fatigue. They only play until August in the minor leagues and this is the first time he’s played into September. Its a good learning experience for him though.

Markakis watch: 0-4 (.296)

Today is the “Free the Birds” protest organized by Nestor from WNST. We come home to face the Tigers in a make up game. Kris Benson (10-11, 4.54) goes up against Nate Robertson (13-12, 3.68). Go O’s.
