Steve Trachsel gets his 2nd loss of the year.
Trachsel pitched a good game. Through 5 innings, he hadn’t allowed a run. He came out of the game with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Jeremy Guthrie came in and promptly hit the first batter he faced. He then gave up a double, followed by an inside the park homerun before getting out of the inning with a strikeout. Trachsel gave up 5 hits, 4 walks, and was charged with 2 runs. He struck out 3. John Parrish pitched a scoreless 7th, issuing 2 walks in the process. Jamie Walker walked 2, but struck out 1 in his scoreless inning of work.
The Orioles led the game 1-0 up until that disastrous 6th. That run came in the first inning when Brian Roberts singled (he would later drive in 2 runs on a double to bring the game within one run), Melvin Mora bunted him to 2nd, and Miguel Tejada drove him in with a single. Corey Patterson knocked in a run with a double in the 7th to start the little rally. Nick Markakis, Aubrey Huff, Jay Payton, and Ramon Hernandez all had singles in the game.
Player of the game: Brian Roberts – 2-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI
Tonight Erik Bedard (3-2, 6.11) gets a chance to pitch with Ramon behind the plate. The O’s need to get this little slide turned around before it gets out of hand. They’ll go up against Jeremy Sowers (0-1, 4.76). Go O’s.
